1. Stop trading hours for dollars, you will never be paid
what your mind is worth. Use your natural entrepreneurial
skills to start your own business. We ALL have
a natural
desire to be on our own, to be free of a boss
and perhaps
even to be the boss. Whether full time or part
time, the
only way to truly control your income is to be
the OWNER.
2. Find an industry that makes money no matter what the
economic forecast. There are certain products
and
services that will always be in demand. Look around
and
think it through - What will people need and/or
do
without regard to how tight money is or the rate
of
inflation, etc.?
3. Look for a type of company that is suffering or going
away or changing radically. Whenever one business
goes
bust some opposing business rakes it in. When
you find
what is going down, you should be able to tell
what will
be going up.
4. There are several areas that have a limited window of
opportunity. While they may not offer a lifelong
career,
during that time frame the ability to profit is
very
real. For example: the current generation is being
raised
on PCs and Palm Pilots, but there is (and will
be for
perhaps 10 years) a large market for helping and
training
those who are "Newbies" to much of the technologies.
Also: the largest segment of our USA society is
zooming
past the age of 50. They do & will have many
needs, and
will pay to fulfill them.
5. If you must work for someone else try sales. Why? Few of
us want to be salespeople for whatever reason.
What that
translates to? For the person who is willing to
learn the
skills, take the nos, find a product or service
they like
& believe in and work hard for a couple of
years....well,
they can practically write their own ticket.
6. Use the huge base of people on the web to your advantage.
There are so very many people on the Internet
now that
there exists a market for ANYTHING. One example
is E-Bay.
After all, 'One man's trash is another man's treasure.'
Even better is the concept of "niche marketing."
There
are things (hobbies or trades) that you know a
lot about
no matter who you are or where you are in life.
Odds are
there are plenty of folks online who would pay
a few
bucks to have that info.
7. Pick an affiliate program in which you like & believe in
the product or service. Make sure that it is honestly
run
and pays AT LEAST 30% per sale. Now, become an
expert at
promotion. It has been my experience that well
written ad
copy in targeted publications and using Top or
Solo ads
will return 2 to 1 on your advertising expenses.
8. Learn a new skill. Just because we get out of formal
schooling should not stop us from wanting to learn.
In an
ever more rapidly changing world an unwillingness
to
learn is suicidal.
9. Get out of debt and increase the amount you save.
Compound interest is an amazing thing. If you
are paying
it - it can bankrupt you, if you are earning it
- it can
make you a millionaire in time for your retirement.
10 Take an hour or so away from distractions with a pad and
pen. Follow what Dr. Robert Schuller writes about
in
several of his books including "Possibility Thinking."
Take your paper and write down 100 ways to succeed
while
others are failing. Brainstorm it! Let your mind
flow and
you will come up with many viable ideas.
Whatever you do - don't 'settle for' and be one of those
that a year from now is sitting around saying 'if only I'd
done....'
